~~flashback~~

I spent some time thinking about Josh and by the end of the night, I had came to a conclusion. I dialed Josh’s number and he picked up almost immediately. “Hello?” is all I heard before I said anything more.

“Hello Josh, please don’t say anything more. I have to speak honestly and freely with you right now.” I said taking a deep breath. As I took the breath, I was gaining the courage to finally speak my mind. “Look, I’ve never forgotten what you and I used to be. I never forgotten our relationship. Honestly, I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing. But Josh, I like you. I really like you. And, I know you’re with Skye, which I don’t like so much. But, I can live and deal with it. And, it’s time to shut the door on us. So, goodbye Josh. I’ll just see you around.” I said trying to prevent tears falling from my eyes. Before he could honestly respond, I hung up the phone. I laid down on my bed and collapsed under the covers still crying.

After my brief time alone that I spent crying, Nadia called me down to dinner. I went downstairs and smelled some authentic Mexican cuisine aroma from the kitchen. I didn’t eat much because I was too busy thinking about what I said to Josh. “Can I be excused? I have to get ready for my hip-hop class tomorrow.” I asked my mother and father politely. After they had said yes, I went upstairs and looked for some comfortable clothing for the class tomorrow. I finally settled on a black and white flannel, black tank top, and black leggings. The goal for the class was to be as comfortable as possible and confident.

Body Alive Dance Studio

Mid-Level Hip Hop Class

1:30 pm

The following morning was pretty much like every other morning, I woke before everyone and went to my private studio for some dance rehearsal alone time. Once everyone began to stir, I would go back into the house and start the morning off in the kitchen. I made myself a typical Strawberry Protein smoothie before grabbing a can of oats and making some oatmeal with acai and other berries. I sat down at the table eat my breakfast and went to shower to get ready for the rest of the day.

“1,2,3,4. 1,2,3,4. Those are the counts. Don’t forget them.” Ms. Kathryn Lane told the class. “Let’s go again.” The music began to play through the radio and I took my place at the head. I kept counting and moving, making sure my movements were both a little tight and a little loose. “Alright, that’s enough for the day. See you tomorrow!” Ms. Kathryn said finally satisfied with the job the class was doing.

I left the room and went in search for Colton. I found him practicing in one of the adjacent studios to where my class was being held. I watched him finish up before I said anything because I didn’t want to distract him. When he finished, I started to clap and fully walk into the room. “Hey Alicia.” He said smiling at me and walking towards me. “Hey.” I said smiling in return. “What was that?” I asked curiously. “Oh, just something for my class.” Colton said reaching for my hand. “Teach me it? Or at least some?” I asked him before setting down my bag. “Absolutely.”

He taught me the dance and I was grateful for the distraction from Josh. But, I was also thankful for Colton period. I felt myself developing some possibly deep feelings for him and that caused some excitement on my part. “Yes, girl!” Colton shouted when I finished the extremely difficult Hip-Hop routine. I smiled at him and I began to laugh some by the way he had said it. He walked towards me to close the gap between us and pulled me into a hug. Still staying close, “I have something to tell you.” He said to me. “What?” I asked wanting to know, but also scared because what if he didn’t or never felt the same way. “I really like you.” That’s when I knew I liked him, too. “I like you, too.” I responded.

He leaned down and kissed me. And, in that moment, I loved it. We parted when we heard a clang of the door as if someone had opened it and turned around. Confused, I looked behind me and through the window, I saw that it was Josh.

A Little Bit Longer

Hey Faithful Readers,

I know, I know. Long time, no blog. I just have not been having the same excitement to sit down and blog as Alicia. So, as of right now, you can say goodbye to my days of blogging as Alicia (unless, I get some beautiful offers of a new plot). I have a new interest that I have yet to see debut on WP. I’m gonna now, give you a brief insight as to what my new blog will be. I will be shutting this one down (URL nonexistent), maintain my claim of Selena Gomez (just transferring her to a new character), and creating an all new blog.

Stay tuned for the debut!

All About My New Plot

Typically, I would start with how many by a show of hands have read the Private series by: Kate Brian. But since this is through a computer screen and I cannot see you, I just will have you comment down below.

In this new plot, I will be roleplaying as the character Reed Brennan. I will be blogging as her in her daily life with the Billing’s Girls and using her novels as guidance. I will provide more insight into Reed’s prior life before her transfer and attendance to Easton Academy. I will be infusing a few newer girls and boys and providing more explanation on Ariana Osgood as a character and the vital role she plays. The new blog should be up by next week.

Can’t wait for the debut!

 Body Alive Dance Studio

Westchester, NY

8:45 am

“A 5, 6, 7, 8!” Ms. Kathryn Lane, my dance instructor, shouted while having the music play from a disc. At the moment, we were working on couple dancing movements and tricks. “Alicia, remain tighter.” She said before I launched into a spin. I did as she asked before she paused the music. “Okay, take a break.” She said dismissing my partner and I to get some water.

“Isn’t going your way?” Skye asked walking by with two other girls. I crossed my arms and said, “Let it be, Skye. It’s none of your business.” I walked away holding my water close to me and sat on the floor next to a few girls. They were talking about the latest encounter of Skye and I. I pulled out my iPod and played some calming music trying to relax before I was called again to the floor.

But I still think about you, think about you

At the end of class, Ms. Kathryn pulled me aside. “What is it?” I asked waiting for her response. “I think you should try to take a few other types of dance classes before the recital.” She said handing me a schedule. I looked over it briefly before she walked away. I folded it up while walking toward the main entrance of the studio. When I looked up and out the window, I saw the one pair I never wanted to see. It was Skye and Josh. Skye was standing at the curb with him not to far holding his hand. When her driver pulled up, she kissed him softly before they both climbed into the car. I turned on the heal of my black ankle boots I had on before going to the bathroom. I cleaned up my face and plastered on a smile. “Watch out!” I heard someone shout from afar. Per normal, I heard the comment after the humiliating event occurred. I ended up colliding full force with a door swinging open. I heard footsteps running toward me while I sat on the floor in pain. “Are you okay?” A young man asked. I looked up at the man pleased with what I saw. At the moment, I momentarily forgot about Josh, Skye, and them together. He had dark brown hair and blue-green eyes that complimented his complexion perfectly. He was wearing denim jeans, a pair of dressier boots that laced up, and a form fitting plaid shirt. I looked up blushing really bad. “Yes.” I said before I stood up. “Alicia.” I said placing my hand in an area where he could shake my hand. “Colton.” He said shaking my hand firmly and briefly.

After speaking to Colton for some time, I learned some things about him. His mother taught at BADS for a hip-hop class. He was there because he was DJ for that class. And, he was an ex-Briarwood boy, which meant he probably knew Josh, Cam, and the others. “Call me sometime.” I said giving him my number before I got to my Mercedes SUV.

I like the feeling, how you make me shy
I share my secrets and I will not hide
I know that one could be two, one could be two

I was in the midst of working on homework before I heard my phone ring from across the room. I walked over to it slowly expecting it would be Massie or someone in the Pretty Committee. When I saw it, I didn’t recognize the number. I picked up and said, “Hello?” “It’s Colton.” The voice on the other end responded. I walked over to my mirror and sat on the chair at it. “Hey, what’s going on?” I asked trying to figure out why he was calling me. “Let’s go on a date.” He said waiting for a response. Before I could realize what I was saying, “Sure” came from my mouth. “Good, see you at 8:30. Dress casual.” After saying all that, he hung up.

When I heard a car pull up, I ran out the door trying to avoid the awkward meet the parents stage of a first date. “So beautiful.” Colton said to me opening the door to the car. I climbed in and he began to drive. “Where are we going?” I asked looking outside at the busy area of New York around me. “Somewhere.”

He drove to an outskirt of Westchester. “I figured we could do some exploring.” He said before getting out. I did the same. Then, he walked over to his trunk removing a camera bag. “I think I could get some good shots.” He said to me before walking in a particular direction. “Stay there.” He said to me. That date was a blur of fun and cheerfulness. I forgot about Josh and everything else dealing with him. I felt like I belonged there with Colton.

That night when I got home, Colton sent me a thread of a few shots of me strung together to look like a video. I looked at it in awe at the art form he showed me. I spent some time thinking about Josh and by the end of the night, I had came to a conclusion. I dialed Josh’s number and he picked up almost immediately. “Hello?” is all I heard before I said anything more.

NYC Times Square

11:00 am

Earlier this morning, Claire and I made some plans to head out into the city to shop, eat something, and stay the night in the penthouse suite of the Hilton in NYC before going home. I needed a relaxing day off from rehearsals and Claire was the perfect one to do it with. “Claire, let’s go.” I said tapping my foot impatiently waiting for her to get into my black Mercedes SUV with my driver also waiting. She climbed in careful to not mess up her current rated 10 outfit. I shifted the brim of my hat before looking at her, “Thank you for coming with me again, Claire. It means a lot.” “No problem.” She responded smiling.

Why I got you on my mind
But my heart don’t understand

Once we arrived in NYC, I had my driver drop us off at a beautiful restaurant that her and I had never been to before. The restaurant’s appearance had a very sleek black classy vibe. The chairs and booths were lined with black leather. There was decor everywhere with touches of clean silver metal and a light shade of dusty pink. One of the things I liked about Claire is that she is always willing to try new things. We walked and the hostess sat us in a booth in the back corner. I slipped in on the right trying to get comfortable. “What can I get for you?” The waitress asked. “Water and Lemon.” I said before flipping through the menu to find something I would like. “So, there’s something that’s been on my mind.” I said to Claire quietly. “What is it?” She asked listening. “Josh. I think I might still have a thing for him.” I said softly. “I just can’t get him off my mind. He’s been on my mind.” I said looking at Claire. “I get it, girl. Maybe just wait and see how the cookie crumbles.” Claire said reaching to grab her water. “I guess, but thanks Claire.” I responded taking a bite of my salad.

After a bite to eat, we got back in the Mercedes and headed to the heart of NYC. “I wanna go to H&M.” Claire said to me looking in my direction. “Fine by me.” I said knowing we would eventually make it to True Religion, Zara, TopShop, and Ralph Lauren. We got out of the car walking through the hustle and bustle of NYC freezing cold. “What do you think?” Claire asked pulling a black button down off the rack. “Amazing.” I said smiling and getting excited. I pulled off the same shirt in an light purple color and eyed it thoughtfully. “Get it!” Claire said giggling. I looked at it again remembering there was a pair of black leather pants that would edge it up enough and that I would be able to find a new Michael Kors purse to add some class to it.

superthumb.jpg

Thought that you were cute and you could make me jealous

I walked toward the men’s side of the store waiting on Claire to finish looking at some plaid shirts when I heard a familiar giggle. I looked over my shoulder briefly and saw blonde highlighted hair that looked awfully familiar. I turned around to face the aisle so, I could look a bit closely. “Very funny, Josh.” I heard the girl say laughing. That’s when realization hit me before speak of the devil could be said under my breath. It was Skye and Josh together, which could mean one thing, they were together. I walked away and as I did I saw them together holding hands. His hair looked messy and his crisp white button down appeared slightly wrinkled. His pants were just a pair of denim skinny jeans, and I definitely couldn’t help but notice Skye’s trying to hard outfit. She had on soft pink dress with light gray tights and black booties. Her peacoat was identical to her pink dress and just as long.  “Claire. Let’s go.” I said pleading. “One sec.” She responded walking to checkout. “Josh is here with Skye-together.” I said urgently. We checked out and walked out of the store with hopes of not running into either person.

Once we walked outside and back into the cold, I felt like I could finally breathe and was no longer suffocated. We walked across the street to Michael Kors where I bought a handbag for myself. After going to the last few stores, my driver picked us up where we returned to the hotel.

Wait, I could have really liked you
I’ll bet, I’ll bet that’s why I keep on thinking ’bout you

tumblr_mebxkeoRDH1rb0rt9o13_r1_500

“How could I be so stupid?” I asked Claire sitting down on the couch in the suite. “Skye just would.” I said sounding hurt. “It’s Skye, Leesh. She wants revenge. And, it’s Josh. He can be easily swayed. But, he’s always going to have a thing for you.” Claire said reassuring me. “Josh is really not thinking.” She continued. “Ask Cam or any ex-Briarwood boy. They know he’s in love with you.” She said smiling and finishing her speech. “Claire, thank you. That’s not the problem. I need to forget him, but I can’t.”

That’s when I realized it was more than petty middle school love. It was so much more. The kind where you fight for each other. I just didn’t know where to start. Or if I even wanted to start to fight for him.

Personal Studio

Rivera’s Estate

7:00 am

I woke up this morning with superior motivation to nail today’s audition for Swan Lake at Body Alive. Of course, I would be going against Skye Hamilton for  the lead, but I hold major hopes that I would do well. Especially considering earlier this week, I received my exclusive internship letter to intern for a few weeks at the New York City Ballet Theater. While looking in the mirror, I recalled the events from earlier this week.

~flashback~

“Mom! It’s here!” I yelled running into the house from my morning walk holding a precious envelope in my hand that had my name, address, and fate typed delicately in a letter. I had applied to intern for the New York Ballet Theater not too long ago and this had the results of my internship request. “Open it!” She responded from the kitchen. I walked in gripping it and using my free hand to open it with a letter opener careful to not rip the paper.

“Congratulations Mrs. Rivera! You’ve been graciously accepted into the prestigious Interning Position for the New York Ballet Theater. Please fill out the remainder of the paper work and send it to this address. We hope to see you soon!”

It read. “I got in!” I responded after reading it. I handed it to my mother where she accepted it with a smile. “I need to go practice.” I said to my mother before waiting for her response on the letter or anything else. I grabbed a black leotard, my pointe shoes, and a pair of pale pink tights and changed. I went back downstairs toward my private studio. In my studio, I had mirrors that lined every part of the wall like a traditional studio. I had a double bar set up where one could be removed and a state-of-the-art dance floor. My stereo system is surround sound as well.

And everybody wants to be touched
Everybody wants to get some
But don’t you play a song about love

Once I got there, I put in a CD and it played Rescue My Heart by: Liz Longley and once that finished it would play Me & The Rhythm by: Selena Gomez. My dance instructor, Ms. Kathryn Lane required that all auditions have both a upbeat and a slow tempo song for us to dance to choreography by ourselves. There was a pair audition earlier this week that I was confident I did well with and nailed a lift-jump combination that Skye struggles with on a regular basis. Kathryn Lane is an icon in the dance industry. She brought up her life coming from a small town in Michigan, where she trained and got accepted onto So You Think You Can Dance. From there, she trained with Travis Wall and received a prestigious job from the New York Ballet Company. After she was no longer a fresh face to the industry, she started teaching at Body Alive.

After I stretched and practiced a few times, I had to head back upstairs to get ready for my audition. I left my hair down in it’s curls knowing it would add more emphasis to my moves versus a ballet bun and Ms. Kathryn loved non traditional whether it was ballet buns or tutus.

Ooh, the heat’s a common ground
No matter what’s your history

I walked into the studio and immediately into Skye. She looked pristine in the white outfit she had on. Her blonde hair was pulled tightly into a ponytail. “Look at you. Thinking your going to get the lead–it’s a shame.” She said to me. “I’ve got nothing to say to you other than let the dancing do the talking.” I responded before walking toward the lockers. I dropped my bag in my locker and pulled out my old beat up pointe shoes that I called my lucky shoes. I also reached for my contemporary shoes. I walked into the studio and delicately wrapped the ribbons of the pointe shoes around my ankle and legs. I stretched some, which was followed by exercise for the class itself.

“Alicia Faith Rivera.” Ms. Kathryn said over the intercom. “Come to Studio D for your audition.” I got up from the floor after what seemed like I was waiting for forever. I walked in and she asked some general informative questions, like how long I have been with Body Alive, my skill set etc. to help provide information for the other 3 judges.

Next thing I knew the music was playing, I landed all leaps and maintained structure for the ballet portion. I felt the emotion throughout the song. I was given a few minutes break before the contemporary where I switched my shoes and stretched some more.

I know, I know, I know
I’d be lying
If I said I didn’t need
Yeah the rhythm, me and the rhythm

When the music began to play, I just started to feel it. I landed leap after leap. Jump after jump. I nailed floor work and truly felt whisked away. I felt free, truly free. I knew in that moment,  I always would need the rhythm and dance to get through anything.

3:45 pm

“Hello, my lovely dancers. We have all made our decisions. Posted on the bulletin board is the cast list as follows.” Mrs. Kathryn announced before walking away to avoid being stampeded. I watched girls and young boys rush over to the board looking to see their parts. Some walked away upset they didn’t get their part. Some walked away excited to be cast. Some walked away angered at the results. Apart of that angered category was Skye Hamilton. “Rivera! That’s got to be a mistake!” Skye shouted out loud to the entire dance class. Her face looked like a mixture of rage, humiliation, and hurt. “Looks like you won this one.” Skye said to me before walking out. “How does it feel to have the lead?” Mrs. Kathryn asked. “I practiced all my life for this part. Honestly, all I want to do is dance!” I responded immediately and laughing lightly. “I could tell in there and now.” She said smiling and giving me a hug.

It felt good to be rewarded for something I worked for whether it was the internship or the Swan Lake lead. I deserved it.
